Day 7 - Santorini
What a beautiful island. I can understand why they say Santorini is one of the most photographed places in the world. The villages are perched on top of steep cliffs, overlooking beautiful bays. The whitewashed buildings against the backdrop of the blue sea kept me in awe making me take many photos as you can imagine!
Most cruises stop in Santorini & the captain changed our day swapping with Mykonos so we wouldn't be so crowded. A good call.
Michael & I went on a tour which took 3 hours, taking a 25 min ride to the famous black sand (and pebbles) beaches then over to Oia located 14km from Fira, the capital. Here there were more whitewashed buildings & blue-domed roofs on the many churches. There were many lovely shops & art galleries. No we didn't make a purchase!
Vines that produced world class white wine are growing at a low level almost along the ground in rich lava soil.
We bumped into the Swans & continued our browsing & meandering up & down little pebbled streets. I managed to buy myself a pair of sandals. Michael & Swany had many Greek jewellery proprietors trying to entice them into their expensive shops.
After some moussaka which was delicious at 1500, we took a cable car down to the cruise. It was very sad to see the poor donkeys laden with visitors & shopping being taken down a steep meandering trail. They had no shelter or water in the 30 degree heat.
Could easily spend a couple of weeks holiday here, a wonderful Island of Greece.
This alsatian is sitting on a stone ledge taking in the view.
Cable car in the centre & the donkey trail zig zagging to the right of cable car.
Taken on the ferry returning us to the cruise.
A relaxing time around the pool (at it's busiest) before getting ready for more food, cocktails & wine!
